Good story, very technical, great characters, exacting and a lot of fun episodes. Easy read. Do recommend!

Ich war anfangs etwas überrascht. Stilistisch hatte ich den Eindruck ungeschliffene Fanfiction vor mir zu haben. Es wirkte alles etwas sprachlich einfach. Ich weiß nicht wie ich es besser beschreiben soll, ich hoffe ihr versteht was ich meine. Im hinteren Teil des Buches wurde dieser Eindruck dann aber weniger.
Inhaltlich ist es eine recht lineare Geschichte die in zwei Zeitebenen erzählt wird. Die aktuellen Geschehnisse und Erinnerungen wie es dazu gekommen war. Zusammengefasst, ohne viel zu verraten: Ein Mann, ein Schiff, eine Mission und ganz viel Wissenschaft.
Irgendwie wächst einem der Protagonist ans Herz. Er schwankt zwar ständig zwischen Wissenschaft und impulsiven Handeln aber das ist ja nur menschlich. Und so fieberte ich am Ende richtig mit. Insbesondere bei der Wendung als ich schon das Gefühl hatte das Buch wäre gleich zum Schluss gekommen.
Ich weiß echt nicht was sich deutsche Verlage denken wenn sie die Titel festlegen. "Der Astronaut"? …

Andy Weir writes pretty good one note hero stories that are heavy on the science and engineering and feel screen ready. This was enjoyable, but not particularly deep. Like The Martian, the protagonist suffers from a series of obstacles and overcomes them one at at time, with the application of dark humour and science and significantly less potatoes.
I enjoyed this work quite a bit. The only criticism I have is that at some point in the novel you reach crisis fatigue. Yes, piloting a starship based on technology that's been developed in the past year or so is going to present some issues, but it sometimes feels like it's unrelenting.
This book instantly became one of my top 10 favorites.
The humor and the science is a big draw for me. Everything is so thuroughly explained to the point where you learn while you're sucked into the world and environment. The chemistry is the most interesting that I have ever read.
Right around the half-way mark I started to fall into the world more. I was sucked in and couldnt get out. Once I finished I just stared at the page hoping that once I blinked more pages would appear; I just wanted more even though the ending was quite succinct.
This is absolutely a great read, another banger by Andy Weir~!
Me ha encantado. Es muy entretenido y siempre están pasando cosas. El robo es desenfadado y el nivel de ciencia no es muy alto, diría que lo disfrutas si sabes de los temas pero que no es necesario para pasar un buen rato leyendo.

This is my first review of a book and is a kind of reaction to the one star commentaries that I saw. For sure I have read The Martian a while back and I can see that this book is similar, but I think a lot of people enjoy it (like I did) because of those similarities. Sure, there are a lot of cliché characters but in the kind of hopefully vision of the future that is lacking right now. The stereotipe of scientists from Russia, China, America and other places that set aside differences to save the world is a much needed hope that if the world is at stake we will all come together. Sure, the book is not all fairies and rainbows, the hero is actually a coward sent against is will to save humanity and in the mean time there is almost a surety that there …

Sure, the book is not all fairies and rainbows, the hero is actually a coward sent against is will to save humanity and in the mean time there is almost a surety that there will be wars and the usual humans in the time of an apocalypse, but the overall tone is optimistic and upbeat and is what a lot of us need sometime. So is a fast and entertaining lecture, that you maybe forget after a while what is about, but you will remember that you felt good reading it.
Project Hail Mary is a very science focused sci-fi novel, which resonates with the science geek in me. But despite having a lot of science, that never takes over from the real story. The scenario is interesting from a philosophical perspective, and the story is interesting and fun from the beginning to the end. This was the book of the year for me, and I can highly recommend it if you like sci-fi.

Gave up. The amnesia/ suddenly remembering stuff as required really bugged me.
As with The Martian, this book is over the top with the heroic solutions to unsolvable problems, but it was still fantastic.
Good:
The plot twist around Ryland's amnesia is great!
"Space amoeba" story done right.
Relationship between Ryland and Rocky is endearing.
Audiobook elevates the whole experience.
Bad:
Protagonist with amnesia trope has been done before.
Rocky has interesting alien physiology & boring human psychology.
* Earthbound story-line and characters seem childish & oversimplified compared to science in space sequences.
Andy Weir seems to tell one type of story very well, and any criticism of The Martian involving the super-human skillset of the protagonist probably applies here as well, but it's definitely a return to fine form after Artemis, so I'm here for it.
