What a delightful re-read! The book was exactly as I remembered, and also perfect to read alone rather than revisiting the series. It really wrapped things up so well, while leaving things open for the future of the characters. Definitely not a romance-ending; the sibling relationship really is the heart of the series and this book.

I was wibbling about finally reading The Goblin Emperor, and after some discussion, decided to pull out this book again. Only a few pages of skimming in again, and I'm reminded of how much I like this author. However, I'm also reminded of how much I don't want to read the first three books in the series again (they are very good! but I like my stories mostly happy, not so varied) and rather coast by and enjoy the happiness of the series culmination (itself quite standalone in central plot, though of course there are also resolved throughlines). Maybe it's because I'm used to jumping into the middle of things, but even though I don't remember all the details, I pick up enough.
Anyway, plan to thoroughly enjoy this re-read (not even sure which one, perhaps the fifth or sixth?).
